Educating Children in Nepal, a program to sponsor children of disadvantaged communities for education was introduced.
Kitchen and Dining hall was added in Mahendranagar with the support from Kadoree Agricultural Aid Association. With their contribution, a farming program was introduced to make the orphanage self-sufficient for cereals, protein, and fresh vegetables.
With more children to look after, it required more space and, therefore, moved to a rented house in Babarmahal, Kathmandu.
One story Amor Children's Home in Gobariya, Mahendranagar came into operation for the boys. A house was rented in Kathmandu for the remaining girls.
Amics Del Nepal was established in Spain to support children in Nepal. A fundraising event was organized with the special initiation of Ms. Christina Nuria Amerus Louis, who had a school. A hall was rented and a concept of a multi-purpose building with a self-sustaining integrated program was presented to the parents and guests of the school. Funds were raised, sponsorship grew; construction began for the building and the compound wall.
A foreign family visiting our home donated some funds. Upon their return, they established an association to support us. They also started to sponsor the admitted children.
Children's Home was formally registered at Kathmandu District Administration Office. Hotel Soaltee Crowne Plaza supported for initial six months to rent a flat in the airport area in Kalimati Dole.
We originated from a child protection program, which had about a dozen children, under Nepal National Dalit Social Welfare Organization which used to have a hostel for girls at the premises donated by the former King Mahendra in Bijeshwori, Patan. Initially for a few months, KUTULA, a French association provided support.
There was no means of providing care and services for the children after the funding stopped. There were no provisions for food and financial means to provide basic essential services for the children, let alone the staff members. The building also needed major repair and maintenance.
A group of wives of Marwadi businessmen used to provide food for some time. The hostel was located on a tourist route. One tourist visited the center and offered to buy what was necessary for the children. Another German volunteer assisted to design a newsletter that had a concept of producing and selling leather goods and handicraft for income. It was printed in a litho printing machine and circulated to most of the international organizations. One newsletter reached CARITAS (Austria) and a program officer visited our orphanage. They immediately provided new beddings. They interacted further with us on possible assistance and suggested as well as supported to buy ten Kattha land in Mahendranagar to have a self-sustaining agro-based program.
